Abstract
In this study, we evaluated the effect of pressure and temperature during curing on bond strength between denture base and soft liner. One plasticized acrylic resin resilient lining material, one silicone resilient lining material, and one heat-cured acrylic (PMMA) denture base resin were selected in this study. The liners were sandwiched between two PMMA resins and cured in one of the following 4 ways: 1) control; 2) in hot water; 3) under pressure; and 4) under pressure in hot water. After 24-h storage, 10 specimens per each group were taken and the tensile bond test was performed with a universal testing machine and a crosshead speed of 5 mm min-1. After visual observation, failure was recorded as either cohesive, adhesive, or both. The other 10 specimens per each group were thermocycled 5000 times in water, between water baths at 5 and 55 ¡ÆC, prior to testing the strength. Water sorption was the most influential factor to in bond strength between the denture base resin and acrylic liner, whereas pressure application affected the bond strength between the silicone liner and denture base resin.
